Parkland Soccer Star Sophia Silverstone Turns Dream Into Reality With College Pick 6

Parkland’s own Sophia Silverstone has spent much of her high school career developing her game at IMG Academy, but still calls Parkland home as she prepares for the next chapter of her soccer career at Suffolk University in Boston.

The senior has officially announced her commitment to Suffolk after overcoming several challenges along the way. Despite moments when she questioned whether she would reach her goal of playing college soccer, she kept working and pushing forward, making her commitment even more meaningful.

“It honestly hasn’t fully processed yet. I’m happy, relieved, a little overwhelmed, and it still doesn’t feel completely real,” Silverstone said. “I’m just really grateful to have the opportunity to continue playing soccer at the collegiate level. It’s something I’ve worked toward for a long time, so having it actually happen is pretty surreal.”

Her decision to attend Suffolk came after a visit to the school, where she immediately connected with the players, coaches, and staff. She was impressed by the team’s closeness and culture and could envision herself becoming part of the program.

Boston was also a major draw. With both of her parents from the Northeast, she had always heard about the opportunity to experience New England. Suffolk’s location in the heart of Boston, along with the balance it offered between academics, athletics and the overall college experience, ultimately made it the right fit.

Silverstone began playing soccer around age four with i9 Sports before spending several years with Parkland Rec and the Parkland travel program. She also played in Coral Springs before eventually returning to Parkland Travel.

She later played for North Broward Prep’s middle school team and moved up to varsity as a freshman. Toward the end of that year, she decided to attend IMG Academy to challenge herself and further develop as a soccer player.

Attending IMG Academy has also helped prepare her for the transition to college. She moved away from home at 15 during her sophomore year and quickly learned how to balance academics, soccer, training, recovery, and everyday responsibilities while living on her own.

“I think leaving home at 15 forced me to grow up a lot faster, but it also showed me what I’m capable of doing on my own,” Silverstone said. “I think that experience is going to make the transition to college a lot easier because living away from home and balancing school with a demanding soccer schedule is already something I’m used to.”

While IMG has played a significant role in her development, Silverstone still considers Parkland home. She has lived in the city since she was four months old, began playing soccer locally and continues to train at Pine Trails whenever she returns home. She credits her local coaches and trainers for continuing to play an important role in her development despite spending much of the year at IMG.

“No matter where soccer takes me, Parkland will always be home,” Silverstone said
