Their slogan, “Where people come to meat,” is this barbecue restaurant and retail shop’s clever slogan, fitting for a cozy establishment with plentiful meat options, various alcohol selections, kitchen supplies, and an inviting dining area.
Tucked away in a quiet shopping center, The BBQ Boutique is located at 4209 W Hillsboro Boulevard in the Marketplace at Hillsboro in Coconut Creek. When customers enter this family business’ doors, they’re instantly greeted with a smile and a feeling of being home.
J De Moura, the executive chef, is the visionary behind this barbecue lover’s paradise. Born in Brazil, De Moura relocated to the U.S. in 2005. Heavily influenced by his Portuguese background, he developed a love of the culinary arts from a very young age.
De Moura and his family wanted to establish an all-inclusive spot for international barbecue.
“We pride ourselves on having an international gastronomy experience blending Texas fusion and churrasco,” De Moura explained.
He paired up with a general manager from a previous restaurant he worked at to open this location.
“We’re a chef-ran kitchen, which gives us the flexibility to do a lot of innovative things with our menu,” De Moura said.
“We take European barbecue and Texas style and fuse that to create our signature barbecue in a bowl. Every item on our menu has a flag representing its country of origin.”
The BBQ Boutique’s retail shop also uses this concept of representing different nations.
“Our pastas are all from Italy, our soy sauces are aged in whiskey barrels from Japan, and our knives come from Brazil,” De Moura said.
Additionally, customers can shop for wine, cutting boards, and even personalize their aprons at the boutique.
“We like to say we’re a chef’s store. We got the idea for our boutique during the height of COVID-19 when we noticed a major rise in people cooking at home. The feedback has been phenomenal. You can have a glass of beer or wine while you shop for all your barbecue necessities,” De Moura explained.
The BBQ Boutique only serves upper choice and higher meats. They are a certified Angus beef retailer and additionally offer wagyu options.
“We’ve created a one-stop shop for your barbecue and cookout needs and elevated that with farm-to-table spices, sauces, and ingredients,” said De Moura.
When asked if there were any exciting events for the future, Alex Carvalho, chief marketing officer, explained a special occasion they held recently.
“We partnered up on December 10 with the local Hagerty Garage to host an exotic car event. We gave it the name Car Meat. All car owners and guests in attendance received 20 percent off any item in the retail store, meat market, or restaurant, so it was a very successful event,”
Carvalho said guests could expect to see similar events happening soon.
Stop by The BBQ Boutique and try their most popular barbecue bowls. The All-American bowl features smokehouse macaroni and cheese, smoked brisket, smoked pulled pork, pinto beans, and pickled red onions. The Gaucho bowl boasts cilantro lime rice, black beans, picanha, vinaigrette salad, radish potato salad, farofa, and potato sticks.
