A cast of passionate young performers is taking center stage in The Prom, the latest production from Next Stop Broadway’s Teen Theatre Project. The musical will be performed on Saturday, April 19, with shows at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. at The Center for the Arts in Coral Springs.
The production features local teens from across the community and is directed by Cynthia O’Brien, Artistic Director of Next Stop Broadway. Based on the Broadway hit, The Prom tells the story of four down-on-their-luck Broadway stars who travel to a conservative town to support a high school student banned from bringing her girlfriend to prom. What begins as a self-serving publicity stunt transforms into a heartwarming and humorous tale of courage, acceptance, and love.
“This show is all about courage, identity, and the power of community,” said O’Brien. “Our teens are not only rising to the challenge of this ambitious production, they’re pouring their hearts into it.”
With high-energy dance numbers, vibrant performances, and a message transcending age, The Prom encourages audiences to embrace authenticity and support one another. O’Brien describes the show as “more than just glitter, dance breaks, and Broadway flair,” emphasizing its themes of empathy and belonging.
“At its heart, The Prom is about love,” O’Brien added. “Not just romantic love, but the kind of love that sees past fear, prejudice, and misunderstanding. The kind that says, ‘You belong here.’ The kind that builds bridges instead of walls.”
Tickets are $25 and available at TheCenterCS.com. Student rush tickets will be available at a discounted rate on the day of the performance.
