5K and Walk Set for April 26, Supporting Healing and Hope at Eagles’ Haven

Every step you take at the E5 Moves 5K and 1-mile run/walk for Eagles Haven supports healing, hope, and community.

The 4th annual event, benefitting Eagles Haven in Coral Springs, takes place Sunday, April 26, at 7 a.m. at Quiet Waters Park, 401 S. Powerline Road, Deerfield Beach.

Registration for the April 26 race is simple: Cost is $35 per person, and if you register as part of the Eagles Haven team and use code EH10, you receive 10 percent off.

Eagle’s Haven opened in 2019 at 5655 Coral Ridge Drive in Coral Springs, after the mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland. The center offers crisis intervention, licensed mental health clinicians, navigator services, wellness experiences and classes, all free of charge to students, parents, and teachers.

Eagles’ Haven, supported by Broward County’s JAFCO (Jewish Adoption and Family Care Options), is a unique model that integrates family strengthening, case management, crisis support, community education, and wellness programming in one central location.

“The community was in critical need of support, and over the past several years, we’ve built a rapport with our community members,” Eagles Haven Director Rebecca Jarquin said. “People trust we are a safe place to land.”

Eagles’ Haven is open 7 days a week and serves all crisis calls or walk-ins needing support.

Jarquin said the benefits are evident because every day they have the opportunity to save a life, connect clients to resources, provide essential mental health education, encourage social support through wellness classes, and support other communities affected by mass violence.

“The horrific truth is that mass violence continues to occur, and Eagles’ Haven’s model of care is paramount to the healing process after this type of tragedy,” Jarquin said. “We have witnessed many of our clients make progress from PTSD, we have averted dozens of suicides, and we want to continue to serve the community long term. Eagles’ Haven is needed long term, especially as our victims’ families, survivors, and community will experience post-trial trauma.”
