It was an evening of making contacts between students and professionals during the DECA/Chamber Networking Night on Wednesday.
Along with the Parkland Chamber of Commerce members, Marjory Stoneman Douglas’s DECA students asked the business community questions about their chosen careers.
Sharon Cutler, MSD teacher and one of four DECA Advisors, and Isabella Ortega, VP of Professional Membership, organized the event.
“The purpose was for the students to learn the importance of networking and how to start building their network,” said Cutler, adding they had organized similar events before Covid. “It was awesome to finally bring back the event in person. The students really enjoyed it and learned a lot while also meeting professionals in our community. “
Since 1946, DECA has prepared emerging leaders and entrepreneurs in marketing, finance, hospitality, and management in high schools and colleges around the globe. Students experience learning about business and the hospitality field while participating in community service projects that impact their future.
Students have the opportunity to compete, travel, and win at local, state, and international levels. As of April 2022, MSD had the third-largest chapter in the world and has won multiple state awards over the years.
