The public is invited to have coffee with the team overseeing construction of the Loxahatchee Road Mobility Improvements Project in Parkland.
Attendees are encouraged to ask the Florida Department of Transportation team questions at the event, which will be held from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 15, at the Parkland Library, 6620 N. University Dr.
According to FDOT,Ā construction on Loxahatchee Road got underway in November 2023 and is expected to be completed in early 2027. The project’s estimated construction cost is $33,480,584, with Parklandās portion of the bill a little under $2 million, records show.
Work on the approximately six-mile-long Loxahatchee Road includes widening the road to accommodate bike lanes, creating a continuous sidewalk on the south side of the road, building roundabouts at Nob Hill Road, University Drive, and Parkside Drive, adding an additional eastbound left turn lane onto State Road 7, milling and resurfacing the roadway, and upgrading signage and pavement markings, according to FDOT.
Parkland officials have said the project will calm traffic and increase safety for vehicles, bicyclists, and pedestrians from the easternmost point of Loxahatchee Road at State Road 7 to its westernmost point at the Arthur R. Marshall National Wildlife Refuge.
As part of the construction, a new guardrail will be installed along the north side of the road, and portions of the roadway will be beautified with a landscaped median āthat will provide traffic calming in an aesthetically pleasing way,ā according to a project webpage created by the city.
The project is a collaboration between FDOT, Broward County, the Broward County Metropolitan Planning Organization, and Parkland.
According to FDOT, twenty-four percent of the construction work had been completed as of July 1.
