Coral Springs native, longtime Parkland resident, and financial therapist Erika Wasserman is set to host a signing to promote her new financial well-being book.
Wasserman, a certified financial therapist and author of Conversations with Your Financial Therapist: Stories and Scripts to Grow Your Money Mindset, will appear at Barnes & Noble at 1400 Glades Road in Boca Raton on Thursday, September 18, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. for a special ‘Meet the Author’ book signing event.
Wasserman tells Parkland Talk that the inspiration for her book came directly from her work with clients who often admitted they had never seen productive financial conversations modeled in their lives.
“My goal is to get thousands of people more comfortable talking about money at various life stages,” Wasserman explained. “Our relationship with money starts in childhood and continues until the day we die, actually, even afterwards, with estate planning. Yet for many, money talk is awkward, shameful, and uncomfortable. That’s why I created seven characters going through life stages, from credit card debt to aging parents, to show what these conversations could sound like.”
Unlike traditional financial advisors who focus primarily on numbers, Wasserman says she works on what she calls the “other senses”, the emotions and challenges behind money decisions.
“Financial advisors and coaches work on the dollars and cents. I work with sleepless nights, disagreements with siblings over inheritance, and the mindset shifts that come with merging or separating money with a partner. Often, it’s the emotional side that drives financial decisions,” she said.
Wasserman, who was born and raised in Coral Springs, has strong roots in the community. After college, she moved away to begin her career at IBM but later returned to Parkland to raise her three daughters, all current students at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.
Wasserman offers practical advice for those hoping to improve their financial mindset: start the conversation. “Waiting to have conversations is like waiting to go to the dentist when you have a toothache. The longer you wait, the more painful and costly it becomes. Start today.”
In addition to the signing, Wasserman is available for speaking engagements, with a focus on helping leaders gain confidence when discussing money with employees and clients. Those interested in booking her can email info@yourfinancialtherapist.com.
