Inspectors ordered Keke’s Breakfast Cafe in Parkland to close after finding nearly 50 flying insects, improper food handling, and 15 health violations.
Inspectors ordered the restaurant, located at 7609 State Road 7, to close on October 12 after documenting 15 violations, including insects landing on clean utensils and equipment.
According to the inspection report, inspectors found small flying insects in the dishwashing area, where they landed on clean utensils, equipment, walls, and boxes of soda. Inspectors also spotted flying insects in the dining room near the bar counter, landing on walls.
Inspectors documented multiple instances of employees failing to follow proper food handling and handwashing procedures. In one instance, an employee picked up soiled equipment from the floor, cleaned a grill, and then handled ham from a cooler without changing gloves or washing their hands.
Another employee was observed touching her face before handling clean equipment and hot sauce bottles. Inspectors instructed the employee on proper procedures, after which she washed her hands.
At the cookline, inspectors reported that an employee handled a soiled wiping cloth before preparing food for an order without washing their hands.
Food preparation practices also raised red flags. Inspectors found unwashed strawberries being cut and portioned for use in the kitchen.
Inspectors also documented food temperature violations.
According to inspectors, Keke’s Breakfast Cafe must remedy the reported issues and pass a reinspection before reopening.
