JROTC teams from Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) participated in the 2023 Florida Army JROTC Raider State Championships, held at Hudson High School in Hudson, Florida. Over 70 teams from across the state participated in the competition.
Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School’s female Raider team and West Broward High School’s mixed Raider team each won first place in their respective categories. Additionally, Everglades High School’s male Raider team secured third place, and their female team finished fourth. Cypress Bay High School’s team also competed at the event.
Lieutenant Colonel (RET) Kenneth Green, the BCPS JROTC coordinator, commented on the performances.
“This impressive showing by our JROTC teams highlights the strength and depth of the program,” said Green. “Throughout the long season, these students displayed unwavering dedication, pushing their physical and mental limits to achieve their goals.”
The state championship involved several events, including a 3.1-mile Team Run, a Fitness Test, a 1-mile Cross-Country Rescue, a Fitness Challenge, and a Rope Bridge, all intended to evaluate the participants’ physical fitness, leadership skills, and teamwork capabilities.
