Cynthia Liu and Ryan Shimony of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas girls’ golf completed a memorable season representing Marjory Stoneman Douglas in the State Championship on Nov. 8.
Liu booked her way into States after finishing tied for second individually with a 72 at the Boca Raton Golf and Racquet Club. Ella Mamame, Samatha Schwartz, Stella Marvel, and Sophia Alcala-Marks also had terrific seasons and competed individually for MSD to help them finish sixth in Regionals.
“Liu played really well through the heat and five-hour round,” said Head Coach Devin Schaller. “Battled on the back nine where she followed up a tough bogey with an awesome birdie putt to shoot even par on the back.”
A week later, Liu competed in States and came in 23rd place after shooting a 78.
Shimony qualified for the boys after shooting a 73 in his round during Regionals. The Eagles finished fifth overall in the Region, with Dylan Marrone and T.J. Thompson shooting a 77. Josh Lieberman and Jayden Thurasingham also competed for MSD. In States, Shimony finished 36th overall after shooting a 77.
