After much social media speculation and rumors, the teens suspected of Halloween vandalism in two Parkland communities have come forward and apologized for their actions.
Although no residents pressed charges, the Parkland district of the Broward County Sheriff’s Office was able to help facilitate retribution for the criminal mischief.
Captain Chris Mulligan said, “We’re happy that we could work with all the parties involved to resolve this to the satisfaction of everyone.”
According to the report, on October 17, BSO investigated at least four criminal mischief incidents in Watercrest, where suspects damaged Halloween decorations at homes located on Carrington Ave, Watercrest Circle West, and Solstice Circle. One of the suspects involved was a juvenile driving in a black Lexus.
That same morning a deputy located the Lexus owner around 9 a.m. Since the suspect was a minor, he spoke with his father, who was aware of the incidents and had already sent his son to Watercrest to apologize. The father agreed he would compensate the homeowners for any damage.
That same night, MiraLago residents’ surveillance cameras caught the same male suspects damaging their Halloween decorations, and one filed a report with BSO Parkland.
This incident caught on surveillance appeared to be teens running from yard to yard, ripping inflatables out of the ground, dragging them across sidewalks, then speeding away.
On October 22, two juvenile subjects visited three homes to apologize and compensate the victims for any damage.
Homeowners who received apologies took to Facebook to share with their concerned neighbors.
“The kids apologized for their actions and paid for the damages,” wrote one MiraLago resident, “I feel they were truly sorry for the whole situation and realized how this incident could have changed their future.”
