Broward Health Medical Center is now offering a minimally invasive procedure to treat uterine fibroids.
Fibroids are noncancerous growths in the uterus composed of muscle and connective tissue from the wall of the uterus.
“Women suffering from uterine fibroids may experience heavy menstrual bleeding, pelvic pain, or bloating symptoms,” said Scott Jordan, M.D., a gynecological oncologist with the Broward Health Physician Group.
According to the manufacturer, the Acessa ProVu procedure is the first and only system to utilize radiofrequency ablation, laparoscopic ultrasound, and guidance mapping to treat uterine fibroids. This procedure allows physicians to identify and treat nearly all locations of fibroids, including those outside the uterine walls.

In addition to a less invasive approach, benefits of the Acessa procedure may include returning home from the hospital on the same day as the procedure, less interoperative blood loss compared to hysterectomy and myomectomy, plus some patients may experience a faster recovery time, allowing them to return to work within four to five days.
“We are thrilled to add this cutting-edge procedure at Broward Health Medical Center that enhances our minimally invasive surgical solutions for women,” Dr. Jordan said.
The hope is that patients will experience relief within three months and continue improving by the end of 12 months.
