Lace-up your running shoes and join the community on Saturday, February 22, 2025, at 7:00 a.m. for the Chris Hixon Memorial 5K at the iconic Hollywood Beach Broadwalk.
Starting at Charnow Park, 300 Connecticut Street, Hollywood, FL 33019, this event is more than just a race—it’s a heartfelt tribute to the life and legacy of Chris Hixon.
Chris Hixon, a beloved husband, father, coach, and U.S. Navy veteran, tragically lost his life on February 14, 2018, during the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting. In a heroic act of courage, he ran toward danger to protect others, ultimately sacrificing his life to save countless students and staff.
In a statement from Anna Fusco, President of the Broward Teachers Union, the event honors his unwavering dedication to his students, his community, and his family. Proceeds from the race will benefit the Chris Hixon Athletic Scholarship Foundation, which supports student-athletes at the three schools where Chris devoted his career: Blanche Ely High School, South Broward High School, and Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.
In addition to his 20 years of service with Broward County Public Schools, Chris served as a U.S. Navy Machinist Mate First Class, completing 27 years of honorable service, including five on active duty and 22 in the reserves.
The 5K invites runners and walkers alike to come together to honor Chris’s memory and support his enduring mission of uplifting student-athletes. Participants will enjoy a scenic route along Hollywood Beach while making a lasting impact on young lives through the scholarship foundation.
