The Marjory Stoneman Douglas swim team made its mark at the inaugural City Championship on Wednesday, with the boys capturing first place and the girls finishing second at the Coral Springs Aquatic Complex.
The boys beat Coral Glades, Coral Springs Charter, and J.P. Taravella to claim the championship.
Sophomore Benjamin Ruytenbeek has led MSD this season, specializing in the 50- and 100-yard freestyle, along with juniors Roman Kondrashov and Jason Brunshteyn. Kondrashov competes in the 200- and 500-yard freestyle, while Brunshteyn swims the 200-yard individual medley and 100-yard breaststroke.
On the girls side, MSD finished runner-up behind Coral Springs Charter and ahead of Coral Glades, J.P. Taravella and Coral Springs High School..
Seniors Carly Chin and Sadie Titensor have provided versatility for the Eagles throughout the season. Chin primarily competes in the 50- and 100-yard freestyle, while Titensor has been willing to swim wherever the team needs her.
Sophomores Nikki Harrypersad and Isla El-Chantiry have also played key roles. Harrypersad competes primarily in the 100- and 200-yard freestyle, while El-Chantiry specializes in the 100-yard butterfly and 500-yard freestyle.
Next, the Eagles will compete in the BCAA Championship on Saturday, October 10.
