Marjory Stoneman Douglas' Gio Rojas Named High School Baseball Pitcher of the Year 6

The top pitcher in all of high school baseball comes from Marjory Stoneman Douglas, where Gio Rojas was named 2026 Pitcher of the Year.

The award came from Perfect Game, which is the World’s Largest Scouting Service, as Rojas capped off his third season with the Eagles by helping lead MSD to another FHSAA state championship.

Although he had been expected to start the state semifinal, the Eagles saved their ace for the championship game—a decision that paid off in dominant fashion. Facing nationally ranked Venice High School, Rojas delivered 6.2 scoreless innings to secure the state title.

“I gave it everything I had, every batter and pitch,” Rojas said. “Especially with the team I have, I have the trust to pitch to contact and let them work as well. I know we are capable or playing ball and be those ball players we train to be.”

Rojas finished the season with an 11-1 record and a 0.58 ERA. He struck out 124 batters over 72.2 innings and concluded his high school career with a record of 28-1. He is signed with the University of Miami but is widely projected to be a top-10 selection in the 2026 MLB Draft,

His pitching coach, Mike Cimilluca, says that his favorite thing about Rojas is how coachable he is. No matter how well he pitched in a game, Rojas always wanted to get better and took to trying new things to improve his performance.

“When he arrived three years ago, he didn’t use his legs a lot, and it’s probably the one thing he and I have worked on the most, really using his lower half more to generate more power,” Cimilluca said. “There was never any pushback because he knew, myself and the other coaches always had his best interest at heart.”
