The Marjory Stoneman Douglas girls’ golf team took first place in the BCAA Championship on Wednesday at the Country Club of Coral Springs.
The Eagles, who competed against Cypress Bay, St. Thomas Aquinas, and Cardinal Gibbons High School, won by 22 strokes for their second straight title. Sutton Oosterhuis finished tied for second individually with a 73. Sophia Alcala-Marks, in her senior year, along with Ella Thompson, Andiara Raton, and Devin Yale, all contributed to the victory.
“Girls did a great job today at grinding out the win,” Head Coach Jonathan Smith said. ” I know if you ask them, there are always some shots they want back, but the end result was very satisfying, and I was happy to see them rewarded for their strong effort today. The total score of 330 for 18 holes is the best 18-hole team tournament score they have carded since I started with them in 2023.”
Matthew Freedland finished 24th for the boys team, one spot ahead of Luke Munson. Diego Femenias also played for the Eagles. Next, MSD will prepare for the District Tournament and potentially beyond, hoping to secure their spot in Regionals and the State Championship.
