
Marjory Stoneman Dougla Swim Team. {MSD Swim}
Marjory Stoneman Douglas swim team had both the boys and girls place in the top five in the BCAA Championship on Saturday.
The girls’ team came in fourth place, highlighted by a first-place win from Sophia El Chantiry in the 100-yard butterfly. She also finished in fifth place in the 200-yard freestyle and was a part of the 200-yard and 400-yard freestyle relays, which came in third and second, respectively, with Alexa Anthony, Carly Chin, and Nikki Harrypersad.
Anthony placed fifth in the 100-yard backstroke, and Carly Chin finished fifth in the 100-yard freestyle and sixth in the 50-yard freestyle, while Nikki Harrypersad took eighth in the 200-yard freestyle. Isla El Chantiry, Ā Antonella Dominguez, Sophia Gamboa-Pereira, Ā and Bella Schubow swam in the 200-yard medley relay and came in seventh. At the same time, Isla El Chantiry secured an eighth-place finish in the 200-yard Individual medley. Keria McCarthy, the teamās only diver, took sixth overall.
The boys’ team finished in fifth place, with top results coming from Roman Kondrashov, who placed second in the 200-yard freestyle and third in the 500-yard freestyle, and Benjamin Ruytenbeek with a ninth-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle. Kondrashov and Ruytenbeek were also part of the 200-yard medley relay, along with Joseph Villalobos and Christian Nicholas, with a seventh-place finish, and the 400-yard freestyle relay, with Villalobos and Sean Carlucci finishing tenth. Ā The 200-yard freestyle relay team of Hudson Hemenway, Maher Halabi, Sean Carlucci, and Christian Nichols placed fifth. Joseph Villalobos also finished 9th in the 100-yard butterfly.
“Despite a lot of weather-related interruptions, the team has been working hard,” Head Coach David Berke said. “Weāre excited to see how they perform in the back half of the season as we prepare for districts and beyond.”
TheĀ Eagles will now have an intersquad meet on Friday, October 17, and will recognize their four seniors, Christian Nichols,Ā Sophia El Chantiry, Sienna Grayeli, andĀ Samantha Renna, before the Start of the postseason with the District, Regional, and State Championship.
