On Wednesday, the Marjory Stoneman Douglas girls soccer team began their quest for a State Championship with a 3-0 win over Boca Raton Community High School.
While the game did not count toward the regular season, it did feature a pair of teams that reached the State Championship last year.
The Eagles went 15-2-2 and lost in the State Semifinals, while Boca Raton Community High School made it to the final before falling 2-1 against Creekside High School.
During their first game this year, MSD got goals from Emily Rodrigues, Alison Ofstein, and Breanna Gordon. Noemi Scheinkman, Emma Mcgregor, and Madi Filsaime all recorded assists.
“I was really proud of the energy and focus they played with,” Head Coach Laura Rountree said. “I most like their energy and attitude and willingness to compete together to get better.”
The rest of the team this year consists of Sam Arias, Sophia Dal Molin, Laina Engelbart, Madison Filsaime, Aleesia Frenquellucci, Audrey Haltiwanger, Courtney Heymach, Alexa Jourdan, Lara Kaplan, Taylor Le, Morgan McCluskey, Breanna Williams, Mogan Melchiorri, Ella Stevens, McKayla Sugrano, Grace Dykstra, Sophia Lowry and Jackie Destefano.
MSD will begin the regular season on Friday, November 8, against Miami Palmetto Senior High School at 3:30 p.m. The Panthers also reached the State Championship and went 15-3-1.
