On Thursday, the Marjory Stoneman Douglas girls soccer team’s historic season ended following a loss in the State Semifinals against Creekside 2-1.
The Eagles, who previously won a District and Regional Championship, finished the season with a record of 15-2-1. Layla Segelnick scored the opening goal in the game, but Creekside tied the score with under ten minutes left in regulation and then tacked on the game-winner less than five minutes later.
“The girls left their hearts on the field today,” Head Coach Laura Rountree said. “As far as the overall season is concerned, I’m proud of how we progressed as a team and I felt we were playing some of our best soccer down the stretch.”
Creekside will play Boca Raton Community High School in the State Final on Saturday, March 2, at 4 p.m.
