The Marjory Stoneman Douglas swim team shone at the District Championship on Monday in Wellington.
The girls’ team took first place and featured Nikki Harrypersad, Antonella Dominguez, and Sadie Titensor, who qualified in the 200-meter freestyle. Isla El Chantiry and Bella Schubow each qualified in the 200-meter, while Sophia El Chantiry, Carly Chin, and Zoey Kuck-Lake shone in the 50-meter free.
Other qualifiers came from Chin, Alexa Anthony, Zoey Kuck-Lake, and Titensor in the 100-meter freestyle. Sophia El Chantiry and Sophia Gamboa-Pereira each made it in the 100-meter butterfly.
Nikki Harrypersad, Isla El Chantiry, Sophia Gamboa-Pereira, and Antonella Dominguez will all swim in the 500-meter freestyle. At the same time, they also had a qualifier in diving with Keira McCarthy and Anthony in the 100-meter backstroke.
In the relays, Chin, Anthony, Harrypersad, and El Chantiry will swim in the 200-meter freestyle relay, with Chin, Anthony, Harrypersad, and El Chantiry swimming in the 400-meter freestyle.
The boys’ team came in second with Roman Kondrashov and Dominick Adamonis qualifying in the 200-meter freestyle. Ben Ruytenbeek made it in the 50-meter free and 100-meter free, while Joseph Villalobos will also swim in two events. Hudson Hemenway and Dominick Adamonis each shone as well individually.
For the relay teams, Ruytenbeek, Kondrashov, Maher Halabi, and Villalobos will swim in the 400-meter freestyle. Christian Nicholas, Jason Brunshteyn, Hudson Hemenway, and Matteo SuarezBueno qualified in the 200-meter medley relay, and Ruytenbeek, Kondrashov, Nichols, and Villalobos secured their spot in the 200-meter free relay.
The Eagles will now prepare for Regionals as they look to book a spot in the State Championship later this month.
