The Marjory Stoneman Douglas swim teams had an impressive performance in the BCAA Championship on Saturday.
The boys’ teams finished in eighth place, with Lorenzo Herek placing first overall in the 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard backstroke. He was also part of the 200-yard freestyle relay, which placed fourth along with Alexander Nichols, Matias Gold, and Xyen Walker.
Matias Gold, Lorenzo Herek, Alexander Nichols, and Maxim Georgiev also placed seventh in the 200-yard medley relay. Individually, Nichols came in second in the 100-yard butterfly and third in the 400-yard freestyle. Roman Kondrashov also placed fifth in the 500-yard freestyle.
The girls ‘team came in sixth place and excelled in the relays, with Sophia El Chantiry, Hope Suther, Alexa Anthony, and Carly Chin coming in second in the 200-yard freestyle. Allyson Lake, Suther, El Chantiry, and Chin came in fourth in the 200-yard medley relay, while Lake, Bean, Sienna Grayeli, and Alexa Anthony placed in the top five in the 400-yard freestyle.
Individually, El Shantiry came in third in the 50-yard freestyle, followed by Shin in seventh and Suther in ninth. Chin came in fourth in the 100-yard freestyle, followed by Anthony, Lake came in sixth in the 100-yard backstroke, and Suther placed eighth in the 100-yard breaststroke.
MSD will continue to race this month in preparation for the postseason, when the Eagles will hope to shine in Districts, Regionals, and the State Championship.
