Lacrosse season is officially underway in Parkland, with both the Marjory Stoneman Douglas boys and girls teams opening the year games.
The girls team dropped its season opener, falling 13–8 against Cardinal Newman High School despite a strong performance from Chloe Resnik, who scored four goals. Aubrey Kasen added three goals, while Noa Capistrano recorded a goal and an assist.
The Eagles bounced back Thursday to earn their first win of the season, defeating St. John Paul II Academy 11–9. Patricia Phang and Resnik each scored five goals and added three assists to lead the offense. Kasen contributed one goal, Mary Denver tallied two assists, and Marissa Gallagher made 11 saves in net to secure the victory.
MSD finished last season with a 10–8 record and will next face Pine Crest School on Wednesday, February 12 at 4 p.m. The Panthers opened their season with a dominant 17–1 win over Miami Country Day School after recording 13 victories last year. However, Pine Crest fell 13–7 to the Eagles in their matchup last season.
The boys lacrosse team struggled in its opener, scoring just once in a 13–1 loss to Western High School. The Eagles responded two days later with a strong showing, defeating Coral Glades 15–1 for their first win of the season.
MSD won three games last year, including a victory over West Boca Raton High School — the Eagles’ next opponent. They will face the Bulls on Tuesday, February 17 at 4:30 p.m. West Boca Raton enters the matchup with a 2–0 record following wins over Park Vista and Seminole Ridge High School.
