The Marjory Stoneman Douglas girls lacrosse team’s historic season continued on Friday after winning the Regional Championship 15-8 against Martin Country.
After going 10-3 in the regular season, the Eagles won a pair of games to win the District Championship and then played in three more games in Regionals. They beat Boca Raton, Jupiter, and Martin Country, outscoring them 47-18.
“The belief that this team has in each other, to go out there and leave it all on the field, is just outstanding and makes me so proud,” Head Coach Scott Iardella said. “It’s been a magical season, and we’re thrilled to start preparing as we advance.”
The Eagles will head to the State Championship and need two more wins for a title. They will be seeded fourth, heading into the Semifinal, and will play top-seeded Plant High School on Friday, May 10th at 7:30 p.m. in Naples. The Panthers are currently the seventh-ranked team in the county and are 22-0 this year. The winner of this game will play either Vero Beach or Bartom Trail in the State Final.
