Students and teachers at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School turned remembrance into action, preparing more than 1,300 peanut butter and jelly sandwiches to help feed local families in need as part of the Day of Service and Love.
The sandwich-making event, held Feb. 13, was organized by the school’s DECA chapter through its community outreach project, Feeding the Future, in honor of the 17 victims of the 2018 tragedy.
In the lead-up to the event, DECA members organized donation drives across campus, collecting jars of peanut butter and jelly. Bread donations followed, with MSD students contributing more than 300 items to support the effort.
On Friday, 35 student and teacher volunteers gathered to assemble sandwiches destined for Our Father’s House Soup Kitchen. In just two hours, volunteers prepared 1,300 sandwiches, all donated to help individuals and families experiencing food insecurity.
