
Marjory Stoneman Douglas Holds Signing Day. {MSD Athletics}
Marjory Stoneman Douglas held a signing day on Wednesday, with nine student-athletes officially set to compete in college.
The baseball team had five players sign with Gio Rojas, making his commitment to the University of Miami official. The left-hander is one of the top pitchers in the country, posting a 17-0 record and an ERA of .71 during his two years with MSD.
Jake Rizzo is signed with the University of Dayton and had the walk-off hit to win a State Championship for the Eagles this past season. He hit .356 this past season with three home runs and 28 RBIs. Lorenzo Laurel, who hit a walk-off three-run home run to win the Regional Semifinals, is headed to the University of Florida. The centerfielder has hit. 302 in the last two seasons with six home runs and 23 RBIs.
Matthew Toback and Abraham Halaoui will each play at Daytona State College. Toback had a home run and 12 RBIs in 19 games with MSD, while Halaoui had a double along with five RBIs. All five of these players will be draft-eligible at the end of their senior year as well.
Jackie Destafano of the girls soccer team signed with Flagler University after coming back in the postseason and helping the Eagles win a seventh straight District Championship and a trip to the Regional Final. Breana McWilliams is signed with Ferrum College and has played four years on the varsity soccer team. Goaltender Kenslee Ward signed with Wake Forest University.
Chloe Resnik, a star on the girls’ lacrosse team, signed with Robert Morris University. The senior scored 68 goals last season and 168 over three varsity seasons.
