Marjory Stoneman Douglas tennis star Savita Bagirathan is officially committed to playing college tennis at Sacred Heart University.
“It feels really special,” Bagirathan said. “It feels like the hard work has paid off, and I get to compete and represent my school now alongside studying.”
Bagirathan started playing tennis when she was 10 and has been on the tennis team for all four years. She is coming off a historic season as a junior, during which she won a State Championship and was named Broward County Player of the Year. She has continued that into her senior year, winning all five of her singles matches and one victory in doubles.
For college, she decided to commit to Sacred Heart University in large part to their nursing program along with receiving a tremendous scholarship to a Division I school.
“When I visited, the players on the team were all really welcoming,” Bagirathan added. “The campus is also gorgeous.”
Bagirathan will have a few more matches during the regular season before she looks to defend her state title. While her focus remains on the Eagles, Bagirathan hopes to improve her mental fitness during matches and her play at the net.
