It has been quite the run for former Marjory Stoneman Douglas baseball players, highlighted by Rylan Lujo’s being named a Freshman mid-season all-American.
Lujo, a four-time State Champion with MSD, has shined in his first year at Dayton University. He recently earned his third player Freshman of the Week award in the A-10 Conference and is currently hitting .427 with seven home runs and 37 RBIs.
Jake Clemente, who is pitching at the University of Florida, was credited with the win for the Gators in their midweek game against the University of North Florida. The hard-throwing right-hander came in to pitch in the sixth inning and recorded five important outs to secure the win. One of his outs came against former high school teammate Santiago Ordonez after Clemente got the catcher to ground out to shortstop.
Still, Ordonez has impressed after starting his career at Florida State University and then attending State College of Florida. This season with the Ospreys, Ordonez is hitting .262 with two home runs and nine RBIs.
This was Clemente’s second win of the season. He started the year off as their Sunday starter but has transitioned into the bullpen, where he shined last year, helping Florida return to the College World Series.
Christian Rodriguez also pitched in the game and had one of his most dominant innings. He retired the side in order, bookending the inning with strikeouts. Rodriguez previously got his first win during a midweek game against Jacksonville University with his dominant changeup.
