Westglades Middle School has continued its incredible success, highlighted by the girls’ soccer team winning its 15th straight Division Championship.
The Wolves went undefeated in the regular season and beat Margate Middle School 10-0 in their opening playoff game. They will be back in action on Monday, Oct. 7, against Lyons Creek Middle School at 4:30 p.m.
The boys team went 5-2 but missed out on the postseason. Head Coach Danny Gurr, though, was pleased with his team this year.
“We are extremely proud of the team overall,” Gurr said. “We are excited to see how this team grows in the future.”
The cross country continued their strong start to the year, with the girls winning another race. Westglades previously won the Northwest Area Schools XC Championship and came in first in their Week 5 meet at Tradewinds Park. Alexys Caropreso also won her second straight race, while Evelena Fleck finished seventh, and Martina Velez came in 10th. Haleigh Mills and Isabella Miller placed 11th and 13th, respectively, while Brianna Loo Martinez and Mandy Glasgow placed in the top 18 with similar times. Emma Yeager and Isabella Solorzano also ran to help the Wolvees win as a team.
The boys’ team, which also won the Northwest Area Schools XC Championships, finished second behind Coral Springs Middle School.
Mason Polonia was the runner-up in the race, while Levi Becker came in fourth. Micah Widlansky finished 13th, while Arjun Tullock and Sanjay Tulloch placed six spots apart. Kane Subko, Ryan Bobbulie, Nevin Mann and Aaron Grossman also raced for Westglades.
