Marjory Stoneman Douglas continues its success in the postseason, with the girls’ lacrosse team winning a District Championship and the boys reaching the final.
“It feels absolutely wonderful to win districts for the first time since 2021,” Head Coach Scott Iardella said. “This team deserves it. We’re thrilled about moving on to Regionals next to see how far this journey can take us. It’s such an honor.”
The girls went 10-3 in the regular season and earned the first seed in the District Tournament. The Eagles scored at least 13 goals in all their wins before dominating Spanish River Community High School 19-1 in the semifinals.
MSD went on to play a familiar opponent in the final against Boca Raton High School. After losing to them in the last two Championship Games, the Eagles won 16-6 on Wednesday to qualify for Regionals.
“What an amazing and hard-fought game tonight versus Boca High School. Both teams came out ready to play,” Iardella added. We are so happy and proud of the Lady Eagles and how the girls were able to make adjustments in the second half to pull away with the victory. The girls played their hearts out.”
The boys team finished the regular season with a 6-5 record before beating West Boca Raton High School in the District Semifinals 16-3. Darren Edenbaum, who ranks second in the country in goals, scored five and had three assists, while Preston Gerena and Ethan Pakhomov recorded hat-tricks. MSD, though, fell in the District Final against top-seeded St. Thomas Aquinas High School 21-2 on Friday.
