State Rep Christine Hunschofsky.
From State Rep. Christine Hunschofsky:
March is the beginning of Spring, and this year, it is also the scheduled end of the 2026 Legislative Session, which began on January 13 and is scheduled to end on March 13. Session is a busy time when bills move through the legislative process and we work on presenting a balanced budget. Each State Representative is given seven bill slots to file legislation. Because of this limitation and the fact that Session is only 60 days long, we are not able to file all the bills we would like to and have to weigh carefully on what legislation we will carry.
The following bills that I sponsored have been making their way through the process:
HB 13/15 Social Worker Compact would make Florida a compact state and allow social workers in our state to also treat their patients in a compact state. This will help with our workforce shortage and provide a continuum of care for our residents.
HB 753 would allow school counselors to not have to take the general education and mastery of professional preparation exams to serve as school counselors. It does not change the criteria/standards for becoming a school counselor. Also, it requires that school counselors be evaluated based on indicators of the Florida School Counseling Standards adopted by the State Board of Education.
HJR 1411 Assessment of Property with Decreasing Just Valuation is a joint resolution for a ballot amendment that states that if the market value of your home decreases or stays the same, your taxable value cannot increase.
HB 1497 My Safe Florida Home Condominium Pilot Program amends the current program to make it easier to access funding for condo community hardening.
Several other bills that I filed and did not move include HB 281 Use of Artificial Intelligence in Psychological, Clinical, Counseling, and Therapy Services ensuring that a human professional is part of the therapy process, HB 659 Interactions with Artificial Intelligence dealing with the regulation of companion chatbots, and HB 321 Carrying Weapons and Firearms that would close the open carry loophole and not allow long guns such as AR-15s to be brought into government meetings and other sensitive places.
