Marjory Stoneman Douglas water polo is back in action, highlighted by a red-hot start from the girls’ team and a breakout performance from a freshman on the boys’ side.
After winning 11 games last season, the girls’ team has carried that momentum into the new year, winning six of their first nine matches following Tuesday night’s victory over Monarch High School. MSD earned two wins this season against Jupiter High School, along with victories over Nova, Western, and Boca Raton Community High School.
Sadie Titensor leads the offense with 57 goals this season. Shubow added a game-high four goals against the Knights and now has 24 on the year. Grayeli has contributed 21 goals, while Larsen has added 14.
In goal, Maya Knapp has recorded 42 saves to anchor the defense. Samantha Renna, Zoey Kucuk-Lake, and Dana DeSouza have all found the back of the net this season as well. Hannah Pomerantz has added an assist, while Kamar Maaz registered a steal. The Eagles will next travel to face Pompano Beach High School on Tuesday, March 3, at 7:30 p.m.The Tornados are 1-1 this year, defeating Chalres W Flamgan High School 10-6 but losing to Pembroke Pines Charter 21-5.
On the boys’ side, freshman Benjamin Ruytenbeek is enjoying an outstanding start to his high school career. Despite the team earning two wins in its first eight games, Ruytenbeek has scored 53 goals, including nine in a dominant 23–2 victory over Monarch High School on Monday night.
Christian Nichols ranks second on the team with 21 goals, while Dylan Shapins has scored eight this season, including five in the latest win. Stanchfield, McClellan, and Nguyen have combined for 12 goals. Josh De Souza and Bryce Walker each recorded their first goals of the season against the Knights. In net, Dilva has totaled 58 saves.
The Eagles will also face Northeast High School on Tuesday, March 3, at 7:30 p.m. The Hurricanes enter the matchup with a 6–0 record and have scored at least 20 goals in every game this season after defeating the Eagles 21–17 last year.
