The Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School baseball team entered the BCAA Championship Tournament having won the previous three titles, but the Eagles ultimately finished in third place after going 2–1 in the event.
MSD opened the tournament with a matchup against Cypress Bay High School and earned a convincing 12–5 victory. The Eagles scored at least one run in every inning, including three in the first, and never trailed throughout the game. Ander Elorriaga and Randy Ruiz each hit home runs and combined for seven RBIs, while Lorenzo Laurel and Sean Torres added one RBI apiece.
Reid Dadic tossed the first three innings to earn the win. Carter McGuinn, Zach Weisselberg, Jaxson Cirella, and Josh Sullivan all contributed in relief to secure the victory and set up a matchup with West Broward High School.
The Eagles suffered their lone loss of the tournament against West Broward, as defensive miscues proved costly. The Bobcats scored seven runs off Gio Rojas, though only two were earned, jumping out to a 7–0 lead. MSD mounted a comeback behind home runs from Jackson Taylor and Ruiz, cutting the deficit with two runs in the fourth inning and another in the fifth. However, West Broward added late insurance runs and held on for a 9–5 win, handing the Eagles just their second loss of the season.
MSD responded strongly in the third-place game, defeating Chaminade-Madonna College Preparatory School 5–2. After falling behind 2–0 early, the Eagles rallied with five runs in the fifth inning and added two more in the sixth to secure the victory. Jake Rizzo, Ruiz, Taylor, and Dadic each drove in runs. Joshua Jakubowicz started and pitched three innings, while Tyler Stertzbach earned the win with two scoreless innings in relief. Jacob Hayes recorded the save, striking out four batters over two innings.
The Eagles now head into the fourth week of the season with a 7–2 record. MSD will face St. Thomas Aquinas High School on Tuesday, March 3, at 7 p.m. The Raiders enter the matchup at 5–2 after winning a state championship last season. The Eagles will then close the week against North Broward Prep on Thursday, March 5, at 6 p.m.
