The Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School flag football team made an impressive postseason run all the way to the Regional Final before falling 18-0 to Park Vista Community High School on Thursday.
The Eagles won 11 games during the regular season and advanced to the District Championship Game, only to lose to Western High School. However, MSD responded with a strong playoff run, defeating the Wildcats 14-7 in overtime in the Regional Quarterfinals before knocking off Miami Palmetto Senior High School in the Regional Semifinals.
Quarterback AB Puccio capped off a remarkable season by throwing for more than 3,000 yards and 55 touchdowns. She also added 188 rushing yards and one touchdown on the ground. The Eagles featured a balanced receiving attack with 12 different players catching touchdown passes, led by Audrey Haltiwanger with 12 receiving scores.
Defensively, Mickayla Sugrano led the team in flags pulled and also recorded 10 interceptions as part of a defense that totaled 36 interceptions on the season. Katie Diaz paced the pass rush with a team-high 30 sacks, helping the Eagles finish with 66 total sacks.
