A Boca Raton man is facing multiple felony charges after investigators say he stole thousands of dollars in merchandise from a Parkland BJ’s Wholesale Club and sold the items online, shipping them directly from the store.
According to the Broward Sheriff’s Office, deputies arrested John Stevens, 59, on Monday following an investigation into alleged thefts at the BJ’s Wholesale Club located at 5901 West Hillsboro Boulevard.
Authorities said the investigation began after BJ’s management received an anonymous tip alleging that Stevens, a store employee, was stealing merchandise and reselling it for profit.
According to an arrest report, Stevens was captured on surveillance video removing items from the sales floor and bringing them into a shipping area inside the store. Investigators said he then used the company’s UPS shipping system to mail the merchandise to buyers across the country, as well as to his own residence.
Detectives allege Stevens advertised and sold the stolen products through online marketplaces, including eBay and Facebook.
The thefts reportedly occurred between March and June. During that time, authorities said Stevens shipped stolen merchandise on 27 separate occasions, resulting in approximately $10,000 in losses.
Stevens was taken into custody and transported to the Broward County Main Jail, where he remains held on a $25,000 bond.
