Prepare to cast your lines at the final City of Parkland’s annual Youth Fishing Derby.
The last in the series of fishing events will take place on Saturday, August 10, 2024, at the Pine Trails Park Fishing Pier.
Open to the public, the event caters specifically to young anglers aged 3 to 12. It offers a perfect opportunity for children to dip their toes into competitive fishing. No prior fishing experience is needed, though participants must bring their fishing gear and bait.
Commissioner Ken Cutler said the fishing derby is one of his all-time favorite events. “I love seeing dads and moms helping their kids appreciate what an amazing adventure fishing can be, the respect for nature, and how cool it is for Parkland to bring it all together.”
On each event day, festivities kick off at 8:00 a.m. with the sounding of a horn, marking the official start of the derby. Young participants will have two hours to try their luck and skill in catching fish, competing for titles such as Biggest Fish, Most Fish Caught, and Smallest Fish Caught.
Participants are encouraged to arrive before the 8:00 a.m. start to complete the check-in process. This allows everyone ample time to prepare for a morning of excitement and friendly competition.
