A Message from Mayor Rich Walker
Whether you are a New Year’s resolution person or someone who expressly avoids them, there is a reason why the concept of a New Year’s resolution is important for all of us.
Just the phrase itself serves as a marker for a moment in our lives when we have an opportunity to see our situations in a new way. The month of January gives us permission, so to speak, to do a collective refresh, so when we set our resolutions – or not – we are all part of a culture that reminds us that we have the option of a reset button at our disposal.
The reset button is there for all of us and, should we choose to push that button, we have an opportunity. As residents of the City of Parkland, we all share the same place we call home. We all share Holmberg Road and Barkland, we all take our kids to Pine Trails Park for games or for a stroll to the playground. We all use different modes of transportation to navigate Pine Island Road or Parkside Drive to arrive at Heron Heights, Park Trails, or Riverglades.
Regardless of our daily routines, our paths cross and our lives intertwine. And as much as we all love to travel, there is something special about knowing that we have a choice not to. We have a choice to stay home and look forward to a brilliant sunset that rivals a horizon at dusk on Florida’s west coast.
If you make New Year’s resolutions, enjoy the process of simply coming up with what they are. Getting that far is sometimes what it is all about. And if you don’t make New Year’s resolutions, remember that the reset button is right in front of you. Use it when you are ready.
Here’s to beginnings and new ideas. Here’s to having the ability to reset. Here’s to Parkland, our families, our future as a vibrant community, and to all our beautiful City has to offer us.
Happy New Year.
