Florida will recognize School Crossing Guard Appreciation Day on Feb. 6, honoring the men and women who help students safely travel to and from school each day.
According to a statement from FDOT, crossing guards are stationed at busy intersections and school entrances across the state, directing traffic and guiding children through crosswalks in all weather and traffic conditions. Their presence improves safety in school zones and reinforces safe driving behavior in areas with heavy pedestrian traffic.
Residents are encouraged to show appreciation to local crossing guards on Feb. 6 and to help keep school zones safe by obeying speed limits, yielding to pedestrians, and following crossing guards’ instructions.
