
Arya Gujarathi {Marjory Stoneman Douglas}
Broward County Public Schools is celebrating a remarkable achievement: Seven seniors have been awarded the prestigious National Merit $2,500 Scholarships.
Among these distinguished students is Arya Gujarathi from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.
Arya Gujarathi, a senior, has been recognized for his academic excellence and commitment to his studies. According to his LinkedIn page, he aspires to be an Aerospace engineer. Clubs include tutoring chair for Mu Alpha Theta, president of Mu Alpha Theta, and team captain of the National Honor Society Brain Brawl. Last summer, he worked as a camp counselor at American Heritage Schools – Broward Campus.
These scholarships are awarded to finalists who demonstrate a superior combination of accomplishments, skills, and potential for success in rigorous college coursework.
The scholarships can be used at any regionally accredited college or university in the United States.
Joining Arya are the following BCPS National Merit Scholarship winners:
- Patrick Fung, McFatter Technical High School (National Merit $2,500 Scholarship)
- Ingrid J. Groose, Flanagan High School (National Merit $2,500 Scholarship)
- Badrinath Konidala, Cypress Bay High School (National Merit $2,500 Scholarship)
- Marcos S. Ortega, West Broward High School (National Merit $2,500 Scholarship)
- Haoran Shi, West Broward High School (National Merit $2,500 Scholarship)
In addition to these winners, Marcela Lopez, a senior at Cypress Bay High School, was honored with a corporate-sponsored National Merit PepsiCo Foundation Scholarship, recognizing her for meeting the specific criteria set by the sponsoring organization.
The journey to becoming a National Merit Scholar is arduous. It begins with an initial pool of semifinalists and culminates in over 15,000 students nationwide who meet the rigorous academic standards and other requirements to advance to the final stage.
Most scholarships awarded annually are sponsored by approximately 320 independent corporations and colleges, further highlighting the prestige of this achievement.
