Although Sammy Beir has one more year left at Marjory Stoneman Douglas, the young pitcher officially committed to play baseball in college at Florida Atlantic University in 2022.
“I really thought I had a good relationship with the coaches, and overall, FAU has been a great baseball program along with having great academics,” he said.
Beir was a key piece to the Eagles on the mound on their way to a State Championship and was used in many different roles this past season. He made one start but also had three wins, with one coming in the Championship game.
He said that throwing the final pitch was the greatest moment he has ever had on a baseball field. He pitched to an ERA of 2.68, had 23 strikeouts in 15.2 innings pitched, and recorded three saves as a junior.
He began playing baseball when he was two years old, recalling using a tennis racket to pretend he was swinging a baseball bat as his father fed him balls. Then played in Parkland Little League for many years. He currently lives in Coral Springs.
Beir credits his family along with his coaches and friends for helping him along the way.
“My family pushes me every day to try and get the most out of myself, and they also are very supportive of my dreams, Beir said. “All my coaches from little league to travel ball to high school have really helped me develop and become a better player.”
Heading into his final season at MSD, Beir will likely once again being used heavily as the Eagles have nearly their entire pitching staff coming back.
Then he will have a chance to stay close to home and play at FAU, which is coming off a season where they went 32-25, including a pair of wins in the conference tournament.
