If you’ve been to the dentist many times, you know the drill. But there’s a new pediatric dentist in town, and she wants to educate your children about the daily four: brushing, flossing, rinsing and chewing.

Dr. Sheryl George has been creating beautiful smiles in the area for ten years.
After working at Coral Springs Dental Associates, she decided it was time to open her own practice in Parkland.
“I wanted the practice here because I just love Parkland. It’s a beautiful city, but most importantly its family oriented,” said Dr. George.
Dr. George created a modern office in Parkland, something colorful that caters to everyone.
“You won’t find status quo themed rooms here, but rather bright colorful private rooms. All of our exam rooms are appointed with televisions on the ceilings to keep children entertained.”
Her new office, Sunshine kiDDS Dentistry has a perfect location: in the Waterways Shoppes where it’s easy to reach patients not only in Parkland, but in Coral Springs, Boca and Coconut Creek as well. Best of all: her dental assistants are specifically trained to work with children.
Dr. George wanted to make going to the dentist a pleasant experience, for not only children, but for parents too. She understands children’s fears and the concerns of the parents. She treats every patient with personalized attention. Dr. George’s goal is to personally make each child feel as comfortable as possible. Your child’s health and comfort is her number one priority she said.
At Sunshine kiDDS Dentistry, there is no waiting on hold for someone to answer the phone. Parents can make their own appointments online, and the office is paperless, so you can prepare everything in advance, at your convenience, so the staff focuses on you and your child during your appointment.

New technology also plays a role in keeping everyone comfortable. According to Dr. George, the tool that they use to clean the children’s teeth is completely wireless, so it looks like a regular spin brush. The office also offers fluoride-free alternatives for cleanings and handheld digital x-rays, which produces much lower exposure to radiation.
A common misconception is that you can just take your child with you to see your general dentist.
“There is a reason why we stay in school two to three years longer than general dentists. Pediatric dentists specialize in behavior management and have extensive training in tooth development from infancy to adulthood. ” said Dr. George.
Children should start seeing a pediatric dentist at age one – or six months after their first tooth grows in.
“Children can develop cavities as early as one year old,” she said.
But Dr. George sees patients as young as newborns. When a baby is born, Ankyloglossia (tongue-tie) may impact their ability to breastfeed. She does a quick procedure using a laser to cut the tissue, which is a much less-invasive way to correct the problem, with no scissors and cleaner, faster healing.

Dr. George also sees a lot of special-needs children in her office. “In residency, we were trained on various craniofacial anomalies and different kinds of pathology and what effects they have on teeth and patient health.”
A resident of Parkland, she lives with her husband and daughter. When it comes to the community, Dr. George strives to be involved. October is National Hygiene Month, and she has been busy visiting local preschools promoting proper oral hygiene. Sunshine kiDDS Dentistry will also be hosting a Halloween candy buy-back event that’s coming soon.
