A man is facing charges of assault and child abuse during a domestic incident in which he allegedly pepper sprayed an infant during a heated altercation.
On April 9, the Broward County Sheriff’s Office received a report from a victim claiming a man, later identified as Ryan Grant, 32, of Parkland, had assaulted her and her infant during a conflict that began over domestic responsibilities and escalated into a physical confrontation.
Records show the incident occurred near the 8200 block of Northwest 115th Way.
According to the report, the woman told deputies she had been in a relationship with Grant for approximately three years. She recounted that the dispute started over childcare and escalated when Grant reportedly struck her with a garage door while she was holding their baby.
The altercation grew increasingly physical, to the point Grant allegedly grabbed her hair and repeatedly punched her in the face. In an attempt to defend herself and the infant, the victim used pepper spray, which Grant wrestled from her and used on both her and the child.
Authorities have confirmed that both victims received immediate medical attention, and child protective services have been notified due to the involvement of a minor.
Records show the infant suffered a laceration on its head and clear signs of having come in contact with pepper spray.
Grant was arrested and transported to the Broward County Main Jail, where he was later released after posting a $7,500 bond.
