Wrong Way Drunk Driver Tried to Bribe Parkland Deputies

A man pulled over for driving the wrong way while drunk on a busy Parkland road tried to bribe two Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies to avoid arrest, court records show.

Lawrence Joseph Mullin, 60, of Lighthouse Point, had apparently been drinking tequila out of two Styrofoam cups in the center console of his white Range Rover on Sept. 30 when deputies spotted him driving south in the northbound lanes of Nob Hill Road just before 10 p.m., according to an arrest affidavit.

After being pulled over, Mullin tried to bribe one deputy with a pair of $100 bills, according to BSO. When she declined the money, Mullin asked for another deputy and tried to hand him a wad of cash, which the deputy refused, records show.

Mullin later failed a roadside sobriety test and two alcohol breath tests with readings of .195 and .196, the affidavit states. The legal limit is .08.

Mullin was booked into the Broward Main Jail on two counts of bribery of a public servant, DUI, DUI with a blood alcohol level over .15, and driving on the wrong side of the road.

Records show he was released on a $4,000 bond.
