The Marjory Stoneman Douglas softball team went 1-1 in the Big-8 Tournament and will now turn their attention to the District Championship.
The Eagles faced Western High School in the opening round and had a pair of one-run leads, but lost 4-2. Addison Zajkowski and Caleigh D’Agoti each had RBIs, while Zajkowski and Dani Rincon had two hits and scored runs.
Kaitlin Enright pitched a complete game and struck out three before Zajkowski pitched the second game in a 3-1 win over Pompano Beach High School. The senior struck out 11 in seven innings and did not allow an earned run, while she also had an RBI along with Camryn Ferro and Rincon.
The Eagles enter the District Tournament as the second seed and will play Coral Glades in the opening round of the District Championship on April 28 at 4 p.m. The Jaguars are 9-10 and lost 6-4 in their only matchup against MSD earlier this year. Western High School is the top seed and will play J.P. Taravella in the opening round. The winner will advance to square off against them on Wednesday, April 28, at 6 p.m.
