The City of Parkland has announced an open call for volunteers aged 16 and older to serve as summer camp counselors.
This unpaid volunteer opportunity allows young adults to earn community service hours, which is required on many high school graduations and college applications.
The city program will run from June 17 to July 26 and offer volunteer work at various Parkland locations. Volunteers must attend a mandatory orientation on June 12 to prepare them for their roles assisting full-time camp counselors.
According to the job listing, volunteers will engage in numerous activities ranging from setting up games and activities to leading group interactions and ensuring the safety and engagement of all campers.
Volunteers will be tasked with helping with check-in and check-out processes, participating in and supervising activities, and proactively handling any issues.
To qualify, applicants must be at least 16 years old by the start of the camp. While previous experience working with children and teens is advantageous, it is not a requirement.
Volunteers must be prepared to work in various weather conditions, including heat and rain, and should be able to perform physical activities such as walking, running, and jumping.
Interested candidates are encouraged to apply as soon as possible, as the application window closes on June 7. Applications can be submitted through the official Parkland HR volunteering page, accessible here.
