This is a summary of crimes and other Parkland incidents through May 6, 2024, compiled through our joint effort with the Broward Sheriff’s Office to share updates with residents.
Fire
A victim of Fire was reported on 05/01/2024. A vehicle caught fire under the hood while the owner was driving. The driver parked the car, and the occupants exited.
Burglary
A victim of Burglary Business was reported on 05/01/2024. The total estimated loss was $970. A door was left open at the rear of the business. Video surveillance shows the suspects leaving with stolen property in hand. An employee with a backpack containing personal belongings removed the bag from its secure location to retrieve an item and left it unattended on a chair. Thieves walked by the business, noticed the victim’s property, and removed the backpack from the business.
Ryan Homes was the victim of a Burglary of a Building/Structure reported on 05/01/2024. The total estimated loss was $500. The subject removed a newly installed microwave oven from an uninhabited residence under new construction.
Theft
A victim of Auto Theft was reported on 05/01/2024. The victim was advised that his vehicle had been stolen from his driveway while in his house.
A victim of Burglary Conveyance was reported on 05/02/2024. A vehicle was left unlocked, and the car owner’s father had a wallet taken from the center console. There were three charges for gas, Uber & Lyft (with a phone number attached). A significant charge attempt was made with Crate & Barrel online but was voided. The total estimated loss was $42.66.
Information
Information on Trails End was reported on 05/10/2024. Park Trails Elementary received a phone call stating that a teacher at the school owed him $500. No threats to the school, principal, or teacher were made on the phone call.
Information was reported on 04/30/2024. A bicyclist was almost hit by two vehicles while racing on Pine Island Road Tuesday evening. Blurred photos of a black Maserati & gray Infinity were reported.
Battery
A victim of Battery Domestic Violence was reported on 05/03/2024. The victim was involved in a verbal dispute, which turned physical. As a result of being physically battered, the victim sustained bruising on the right side of her body.
Found Property
A victim of Found Property on Trails End was reported on 05/05/2024. The complainant found an unattended backpack and called for assistance. The contents of the bag contained drug paraphernalia, amongst other property.
Fraud
A victim of Fraud—All Other was reported on 05/03/2024. The total estimated loss was $375,000. An adult female reported that she had been investing using Crypto. She invested over $375,000 throughout one and a half weeks and was supposed to receive approximately $500,000 in return. She confirmed the wrong Crypto Wallet account and never received the money.
Arrests
True, James Donovan, 48, was arrested on a charge of Battery – Cause Bodily Harm –Domestic Violence on 05/03/2024.
