“Turn the music down,” sounds like a mother scolding her kids, but it was also the topic of the latest ordinance adopted in Parkland.
Any parent whose head hits the pillow before 10 p.m. will appreciate the new addition to this city policy.
Research into a noise ordinance began after several residents reached out to the commission to review the City of Parkland’s current policy said Mayor Christine Hunschofsky,
“After comparing neighboring cities’ policies and taking into account the family-friendly community that Parkland is, we decided to make the change,” she said.
Don’t worry. Residents won’t have to cut their New Year’s Eve parties short. This change will only affect school nights from Sundays through Thursdays.
The original noise ordinance, adopted in 2002, stated that producing sound in a “loud and raucous manner” and disturbing an adjacent neighbor between the hours of 11:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m. was prohibited.
This included the use or operation of any radio, musical instrument, television, phonograph (remember these?), drum, compact disc or tape player, exterior loudspeaker, music streaming device, or another device for the production or reproduction of sound.
The new ordinance extends the quiet hours, so they will now begin at 10:00 p.m. The ordinance was unanimously adopted at the commission meeting on December 18.
