Former Marjory Stoneman Douglas baseball star Coby Mayo had an incredible year, finishing as the Baltimore Orioles Minor League Player of the Year.
A 2020 graduate from MSD, Mayo dominated all season and even made his MLB debut and recorded his first big league hit against DJ Herz of the Washington Nationals on August 2. After being sent back down to Triple-A, Mayo finished the year by hitting .293 with 25 home runs and 73 RBIs.
He has now hit 82 career minor league home runs and driven in 282 RBIs, following his high school career, where Mayo hit 13 home runs, and 61 scored 61 runs.
The Orioles went on to qualify for the postseason but fell short in their two-game series against the Kansas City Royals, and Mayo was left off the postseason roster. He did play in the playoffs for the Norfolk Tides, hitting two home runs and seven RBIs in four games. Mayo has a significant chance of making the extensive league roster after spring training and finishing as the ninth-ranked prospect in baseball.
