Former Marjory Stoneman Douglas Pitcher Jesus Luzardo Named to 1st All-Star Game 6

Former Marjory Stoneman Douglas standout Jesus Luzardo has been named an MLB All-Star for the first time in his major league career.

The 2016 Marjory Stoneman Douglas graduate will have the opportunity to pitch in front of the home crowd at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia after putting together an outstanding first half of the season with the Philadelphia Phillies.

Despite allowing six runs in his first start of the year, the left-hander quickly bounced back and has emerged as one of baseball’s top pitchers Luzardo owns a 8-4 record with a 3.51 ERA while ranking fourth in Major League Baseball with 136 strikeouts.

He recently pitched 7.1 scoreless innings in his final start before the break, striking out 11 against the Cincinnati Reds. Luzardo starred at Marjory Stoneman Douglas, where he compiled a 23-5 record during his high school career before being selected in the third round of the 2016 MLB Draft by the Washington Nationals. He was later traded to the Oakland Athletics, making his major league debut in 2019. Now in his seventh MLB season, Luzardo has also pitched for the Miami Marlins and will compete in all star game on Tuesday, July 13 at 8. p.m.
