The Marjory Stoneman. Douglas baseball team’s 16-game winning streak may have ended, but it was still an impressive spring break for the Eagles after going 2-1.
MSD knocked off Santa Fe Catholic High School 5-0 behind a gem from Danny Tartaglia. He tossed a complete game, allowing six hits and striking out 13. Bennett Gary and Nick Diaz homered, while Jake Rizzo and Gio Rojas each drove in runs.
The Eagles then went on to win their third game this year against a team that won a State Championship last year, defeating Blen Jesuit High School 7-4. Rojas made the start and allowed only one earned run in four innings. He struck out nine before Breylynn Courtney tossed the final three innings with five punchouts. Gary led the offense with three more RBIs, with Rojas and Lorenzo Laurel also plating runs.
MSD’s final game featured the Eagles losing their second season game against Sickles High School. The Eagles lost 5-4 despite taking an early 3-0 lead. Rizzo, Drew Freeman, and Santiago Rincon drove in runs, but MSD fell to 17-2 this season.
MSD will be back in action for their next game on Tuesday at St. Thomas Aquinas High School. The Raiders are 15-4-1 but lost 3-1 against the Eagles earlier this season in the BCAA Championship.
