The Original Florida Pokers continue their incredible run of producing college baseball players with three more officially committing.
Breylynn Courtney is set to attend Eastern Florida State College.
“I want to thank my friends and teammates for the support, Courtney said. “I couldn’t have done it without Coach Cimi, Coach Fitz, and Coach Fed. I can’t thank my family enough for everything they have done for me and have sacrificed and all the love they have.”
Courtney, who attends Marjory Stoneman Douglas, has been on the varsity baseball team since he was a sophomore and has won two state championships. He pitched once in 2023 and then got into 13 games last year, pitching to an ERA of 1.98. Courtney had a pair of wins and recorded a save while striking out 45 hitters in 28.1 innings.
Nick Diaz is committed to Charleston University and has played baseball since he was in scorn grade. During the State Championship Game, he had one of the biggest hits in school history this past year. With the game tied in the bottom of the eighth inning, Diaz recorded a walk-off single to lift MSD to their fourth consecutive state title. In 31 games, Diaz hit .375 with three home runs and 23 RBIs.
Carson Kuhns is committed to Cowley College in Kansas and says it has relieved a lot of stress.
“It feels great to officially commit, especially knowing that I’m one step closer to my dream of playing in the MLB, Kunhs said. “That brings a lot of relief for sure.”
Carson began playing baseball as soon as he could swing a bat. He is the younger brother of Tegan Kuhns, one of the top prospects in the 2024 class. Carson thought of committing to a Division I school, but he wanted to make an impact immediately. He would develop at a junior college for two years and then transfer to a bigger school to get drafted.
“Talking to the coaching staff at Cowley, I see that their main goal is to develop guys and send them onto bigger and better things. They just sent eight guys from this past year’s team to Power 5 schools. So after all of that and doing my research, I decided Cowley was the right school for me.”
Kuhns played for various travel baseball teams and then found what he called the best travel team in the nation. He went on to play there when he was 15 and played a significant role in helping the Pokers go 7-0 and winning the Underclassmen WWBA World Championship.
